Hon Ben Rollands Igbakpa
Hon Member, Federal House of Representatives, Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency
Hon Ben Rollands IgbakpaHon Member, Federal House of Representatives, Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency
Hon. Ben Igbakpa is a successful person. Born in a little-known village (Ovade) in Oghara, Delta State, he rose against odds to become a very respectable individual, and indeed a honourable politician. Nevertheless, his current social status have not caused him to assume himself as an "alpha and omega", nor has it derailed him from being an inspiration to everyone who have ever come in contact with him.
From my association with him, he has taught me that before we delight on the ideas of 'who we are', we must first consider the reality of 'what we are'. It is also not a question of where we come from, but which way we decide to take in our journey through life, because we are first and foremost human beings who are naturally unlimited free-roaming and guided by personal principles. All we eventually become and the meaning we make out of our lives and what people eventually remember us for, must be guided by our personal rules of behaviour.
For Hon. Igbakpa, the most decisive aspect of life is not accumulating wealth, being prominent, or being perfect. It is about being lawful, humble, selfless and being able to touch the lives of other people positively.
Hon. Igbakpa is a man who considers politics as a means to ensuring judicious management of government resources, and the enforcement of good governance to improve the lives of people; not a means of controlling people themselves. He has the skills-set and experience to make any system work in accordance with the expectations of the people.
As the people of Ethiope Federal Constituency continue to yearn for a representative readily fine-tuned to the universally acceptable principle of good governance and accountability, the personal humane principles and ethical political considerations of Hon Ben Rollands Igbakpa, are necessary for the actualisation of the dreams of the good and expectant people of Ethiope Federal Constituency.
Hon. Ben Igbakpa Rollands, Member representing Ethiope West/East Constituency, was born on 28th August, 1966. He hails from Ovade-Oghara Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State. He attended Onogborhe Primary School, Ovade-Oghara from 1974 to 1979 where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate. In 1979 to 1984, he attended Ogini Grammer School, Ogharefe, where he got his West African School Certificate (WASC).
However, in order to be ICT compliant, he attended the Institute of Management and Computer Education in Lagos 1988 to 1991 where he obtained a Diploma in Computer Science, as well as a certificate in Computer Programming and information Technology for Managers and Data Processing.
Apparently, in order to have a better working background of the private sector operations, he worked as Management Information Officer in 1987 to 1992 with Chemiron International Pharmaceutical Ltd. As a worthy Management Information Officer, he also proceeded to work with Vego Cosmetic Products Ltd. Between 1992 to 1993.
To further explore the private sector, he assumed the role of Assistant Safety Officer in an Oil Exploration Company called CGG Nigeria Limited 1999 to 2001.
In pursuance of further education, he proceeded to Delta State University, Abraka, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from 1999 to 2004. To further update himself academically, Hon. Igbakpa went back to the prestigious Delta State University, Abraka, in 2007 to 2009, where he added to his certificates, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA).
As a politician, he became an astute People democratic Party (PDP) card carrying member, a platform from which he was elected as Member representing Ethiope West Constituency, as Deputy Chief Whip from 2007 to 2008. However, in 2001 to 2007, he had served as Executive Officer, Special Project Unit Governor’s office, during chief Ibori’s Administration. He was the Deputy Majority Leader in the Delta State House of Assembly from 2008 to 2011.
He did not return to the House after the April 2001 elections rather he was nominated as Commissioner for Transport by H.E Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, a Ministry which is very central to Governor Uduaghan’s aspirations to leave a legacy for Deltans after his tenure. The Urban city transport scheme, the free school buses and the promise to even deploy more vehicles to further drive the transport initiative of the Governor all point to the fact that
Hon. Ben Igbakpa, who is actually well liked by many Deltans, for his generosity and accessibility, is in the right place at the right time for the Uduaghan administration.
Hon. Ben Igbakpa is a Christian, happily married to his lovely wife, and blessed with children.
